Unique Builds & Limited Components

Starting in late 2000s, we began listing unique, direct-purchase builds here. We occasionally acquire exotic, "New Old Stock" (NOS), or flagship components that allow us to "cook up" something truly extraordinary.

These builds often bypass traditional dealer markups and MSRP structures because the raw material costs are so high. For example:

• Specific Brand Transformers: We recently were asked to build a EL84TT but with full new set of ISO TANGO transformers.

• Rare Acquisitions: A pair of NOS TAMURA 10K flagship transformers for a 211 build can be valued at $5,000-6,000 USD today. And we can use it on your next 211 amp project.

• Modernized Circuit Redesign: Unlocking Hidden Potential

  It is a common request: clients send us their existing kits or DIY amplifiers to be completely stripped down and rebuilt from the ground up. The goal is to transform a basic build into a sophisticated machine with modernized sound and world-class performance.

  Engineering Beyond the "Beginner" Level Many commercial kits are designed for the hobbyist or learner. Consequently, the circuits are often intentionally over-simplified—frequently lacking the refined feedback implementation or sophisticated power regulation required for true high-fidelity performance. While these kits may "work," they rarely achieve "high-quality" status or compete with top-tier builds.

  Maximizing Premium Iron Paradoxically, many of these DIY amps are equipped with exceptional transformers that have never been fully "exercised." A great transformer is only as good as the circuit driving it; without expert engineering, their potential remains untapped.

  Expertise Behind the Scenes This is where we excel. For decades, we have operated behind the scenes—engineering OEM tube circuit designs and re-engineering flawed layouts into perfected, high-performance systems for others. We don't just "clean up" your amplifier; we apply professional-grade topology and decades of design experience to ensure every component finally reaches its full sonic potential.

Bespoke Engineering

If your vision goes beyond a simple modification—such as requesting a 6V6 version of the EL84TT EVO or a 300B / VT25 variation of our monoblocks—it is likely possible. While these custom commissions require a higher investment, they result in the rare "Triode Lab" badge appearing on a non-standard, one-of-a-kind amplifier.

All custom and legacy builds include our standard warranty and meet our highest benchmarks for refinement and measured performance.

2020+ Integrated Amplifier

We mastered one little EL84 in SE mode almost 40 years ago. Have we stop making it due to high cost? No - we still make it for our EL84 fanatics, in modern high end standards (most tube circuits out there are from the old days with narrow bandwidth, and not very refined - it’s not a coincident some amps never had highs , or the noise floor is higher than usual , because its just another copy from the past). Each EL84 SET-FFX is one of a kind, made to your order. And here is the “TRIODE LAB” no hold barrette version of this tube in SE configurations - you can’t find the same voice and character else where. These exotic Hashimoto (Sansui) Transformers from Tokyo are the finest type HIFI transformers and are expensive. There is not another manufacture can afford to do this , we simply want the best or nothing! Because even we have the ultimate and finest circuit designs , without the finest transformers will not unleash its full potential. And these legendary Hashimoto transformers are proven on Sansui amps that be lasting forever.

• Damping Factor : 12-14 (Most average 2A3/300B SET amps on the market are 6-8. And most EL84 SE amps out there are 2-5 only , that’s why there is no involvement / emotion , weight , highs and lows , definitions , power and performance …etc. Its not a co-incident! most are made to light up only due to the cost). Circuit , Transformers , Design Quality , Feedbacks , Drive mode (Triode / Pentode / UL…etc) are all the direct reasons.

• Operation : Class A Autobias

• Size : 17 in x 10 in x 3 in

• Special Note : Other than our typical FFX treatments , this might be the only SE-EL84 amp on the market uses regulated power supply to feed the amp. And in the past , our record measurement in such configuration WITHOUT regulated power supply is quiet enough at 100 db - which reads quieter than many solid state amps. Now, it will only be better , quieter , and the tubes and sound are always at its optimal working point - the tubes will last longer and more evenly too, as they see same voltages. No body will do that far and spend that much time / money and effort for such simple-amp design , but we will!

• Finish - Unfortunately there is no choice in colours now due to the rapid raising cost - ask what colours we have in stock (and there will be no surcharge), it could be bare PCB-Black too which is cool. If you want to pick a colour you like from our 9 factory colours or any powdercoat, it will be a $300 option from 2021. That is actually what we paid to have it professionally done (there is a minimum charge either the professional paint company do, rather one piece of object or alot of 10 items), especially for you.

• $2,999 USD - Making it our most affordable tube amp that wears the Triode Lab name!

• UPDATE: 2022 Fall - Due to the highest inflation in over the last 30+ Years in Canada. Price subject to change without notice. As of today - $2500 barely covers our labour and operation on each amp built unfortunately. Despite we don’t want to - major price increase is required - because we will not use subpar parts and transformers.

We regret the decision no matter how much we love the design (go to our history page to get to know more the original idea!), we also spent many years of effort to make , evolve , voice it better than ever. Which goes head to head with the finest amps around the world, but in a PP form AND a non-triode power tube. The EL84TT Integrated Amp will always be an achievement at our lab. The EL84TT is an authentic, high-end integrated tube amplifier operating in Class A Push Pull Triode -- a pocket-sized reference unit, that's not afraid to challenge high-end triode pre/power tube amps combo. It features our S.E.A 2nd Gen Driver Design that sounds like a SET kind of amplifier, but with the control and bass of a conventional push pull amplifier.

It is used by tube connoisseurs and sound professionals as a point of reference and comparison.

MK2 : On our latest offering, we transform the original award-winning design to a mature and even better state, thanks to our R&D team and their ongoing effort to refine the sound and better hard-wares. After almost a decade of usage of the perfect transformers and parts, we are able to evolve it above the already best statues. Here are the further improvements over the "original" circuitry wise. On the hardware and sound tuning list above, it already scored the best sound/cost ratio.

1. An advanced regulating stage for power supply - heavily inflated our cost, but that's the only way to beat our previous dark quiet background and our infamous quiet operations, it also enhance the life of tubes expectancy

2. Improved power supply design and grounding network throughout the circuitry, seeing more ECAPS than previously? They are there for reasons! And they are all high grade, high temperature, high rating Japanese quality ECAPS

3. Better gain and boost than previously - more speakers will be easier driven and going louder

4. Like our original EL84TT prototype, there is only one set of input for the purest signal transfer - it goes directly to volume/pre-amp stage. The original idea of the EL84TT is to pursuit the best possible sound, instead of to fulfill the convenience of lazy audiophiles

5. Since we have used and know every piece of parts we will be using on the circuit, all the useless spots and parts will be obsoleted for cleanest channeling and lower the possibility in picking up noise.

6. New layout allows made as being integrated design, or a pure power amp (with less gain)

7. Reconfigured from standard Class A PP-Triode Mode to PP-Ultra Linear Mode for doubling the power to 10W Class A (Triode mode will be an option for triode sound die-hard fans - specific when ordering)

8. Further transformers upgrades are possible, even upgrade the spec to a 7189 tube amp with even more power!

These are the finest wattage thanks to Hashimoto. They have the fewest power losses, the most quiet condition and ideal measurements in everything (these were measured better than almost over 100 db for the S/N ratio - which is VERY quiet), which makes a 15W"amp" drive like a 30W. Don't let the numbers fool you. The best tube amp will easily outpower your average quality tube amps so you can drive more different speakers PLUS, you always hear more. This is why most experienced tube-philes would only spend time with a tube amp mounted with decent transformers, because they know they are listening to everything out from their records/source.

EL84TT-FFX R

By using 7189a / EL84M tubes ONLY, with all newly-redesigned circuitry for this higher power output tube, which focus on strengthened/enhanced front-end design (an auto balance design is also used over trim pot), as well, an upgraded power supply handles the extra wattage output AND operating voltage. The FFX-R enables to yield a solid 20W Audobias in Pentode Class A/B or 8W in Triode Class A. The power supply is also regulated on the FFX R.

The FFX-R have the Hashimoto Output Transformers upgraded to 25W Potted or 30W Classic Type Sansui Output Transformers by Hashimoto (the one used on the EL84-TTS), also a bigger power transformer is used, as the operating point shifted up from under 280V to 300-330V. An extra pair of oil caps is needed at the front end, along with a few pairs of extra E-caps, which are crucial to the other 4 Silver in Oil coupling caps to make up this perfect topology - nothing less, to finish off as the best of its type around the world. • We mastered turntables more than 30 years ago, many phono amp designs are made ever since (both for our own enjoyment and OEM), and back then we were fever enough fly all the way to Japan to beg old Mr.K-san for our own cartridge. And this is our favourite MC design from 30 years ago and it just come back to life!

Reference Integrated Amplifier

DUO Feedback Technology , exclusive and debut on this 2A3 Parallel SE Design. Double the bandwidth, higher efficiency and stability, lower distortion and noise, and beautiful curves of both measurements and image of the body. (Unique feature / design on the PSDM amps only)

• Dual mono design, each channel's own output, power transformers and tube rectified power supply stage on to the same chassis - Total 5 pcs + Transformers.

• Feature using Mundorf power supply capacitors - Our design uses one big capacitor over multi-piece of E caps for better S/N ratio and fewer chances of interference. What's more, a long duration of R&D of the layout and location on each (out of 5 pcs + of transformers) is carefully measured and tested, to ensure each spot where the transformer is mounted is the quietest place to be. Even the horizontal/vertical placement of each transformer make a difference, if you notice how we handle the transformers on the chassis.

• Mundorf Supreme Silver in Oil Caps are voiced and used across the range (FFX or Canadian trim)

45 Mini /2A3 Mini

So here is the small or mini version to our reference EVO Integrated Amp. The Mini originally is constructed with the very powerful and quiet 12AX7, to yield a single stage pre-amp. We'd considered using both 5687 or 6H30 tubes, but both will require a 2-stage design (plus the availability of tubes is not as good as that of the 12AX7s), which wouldn't sound as direct nor realistic. Those who listen to the these 45/2A3 Triode tubes with little output power isn't worried about gain nor drive anyway, so to tube connoisseurs, the quality and refinement are far important.

Starting after 2022 - only 6922 will be used, which yield even better euphonic and transparency character, and gain. We also updated the entire circuit, which in tune, closer to the sound and spec of the big brother EVO. It’s not a easy task with just one preamp (6922) tube driving the 45/2A3. Look how busy and packed the front end is and you will know. We also upgraded the loading resistors to Ohmite (Japan) and using Rubycon (Japan) Premium Resistors/ECAPS *, as well the premium 45/2A3 tube socket with tighter fitment (so people won’t insert their NOS 45/2A3 tubes wrong pins anymore after a drink or two, or in low light). For the power supply - we also use multiple-ECAPs arrangement for superior noise filtering, same as from our latest 45/2A3S and 45/2A3M.

The sample built is a 45 with an exceptional 2W before distortion, in 2A3 application, we can easily get a solid 3.5W-5W before distortion. And no, you cannot run the two tubes the same time, we make the finest 2A3 amp or we make the best 45 amp only, they use totally different values and transformers (if you put a 45 on a 2A3 Mini - it will blew because the amp is making more power. But on the 45 Mini - 2A3 actually sounds pretty good, although not nearly as good as the 45, which the amp is spec’d for).

We do not make a half-quality circuit to run two tubes loosely together for convenience (then nothing best is about that amp - because now it’s not optimized for either tube). The two tubes, which is totally different and required different optimization to maximize each tube's potential. (For example - out of many things, we run the 45 with 5K output transformer and 2A3 in 2.5-3.5K, it is totally different transformers! never-mind there are many other adjustments thru out the rest of the circuitry to make it finest AND reliable/durable to be a selling product they are made to last).
